Welcome to My VCF Homelab Blog

Welcome to Justin Raley’s VCF homelab blog. Follow a lab rebuild covering hardware, networking, infrastructure, virtualization and nested environments.

Overview

Welcome to my VCF homelab blog. I document how I build and rebuild my lab, from hardware and networking to VMware Cloud Foundation and nested environments, sharing the practical experience I use to support my work and learning.

My background

My VMware background includes Professional Services and customer-facing work in the VMware Cloud Foundation division. Building and rebuilding my homelab gives me practical experience I can use to support customers and share with other practitioners.

The lab rebuild plan

The original rebuild plan below became a series of published walkthroughs. Start with the VCF lab guide index for the current reading path and the September 2026 architecture for the later lab design.

1. Identify Hardware
2. Rackmount equipment/cabling
3. Define IP Subnetting
4. Build infrastructure
5. Deploy VCF Physical environment
6. Configure nested virtual switches
7. Deploy/configure VyOS router
8. Configure Powershell scripts for nested environments
9. Test Powershell script deployments
10. Build nested VCF/VVF environments
